Fujairah Flash Flood: UAE Motorist Escapes As Vehicle Swept Away In Wadi Flooding

A motorist escaped unharmed moments before his vehicle was swept away by flash floodwaters in Fujairah. The flooding on Wednesday was caused by strong runoff in one of the wadis in the Al Halah area of Dibba, Fujairah.

According to Fujairah Police, the driver managed to exit the vehicle safely and was uninjured before the rising waters carried it away amid strong runoff conditions. Authorities urged the public to strictly adhere to safety advisories and avoid entering or crossing wadis during flooding, stressing that these areas can become extremely dangerous within moments.

This driver luckily escaped unharmed; however, the incident highlights the risks of attempting to cross wadis during rain or unstable weather conditions, which may trigger heavy water flow.

Authorities reiterate that such actions can quickly become life-threatening and are also treated as a serious traffic violation in the UAE. Under UAE traffic regulations, entering flooded wadis or hazardous areas during adverse weather can result in heavy fines and penalty points, and, in cases where it endangers lives, may lead to stricter legal consequences, including vehicle impoundment, depending on the severity of the offence.

Rain-related traffic fines in the UAE:

Entering flooded wadis: Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and 60-day vehicle impoundment.

Gathering near valleys: Dh1,000 fine, six black points.

Obstructing emergency personnel or rescue teams: Dh1,000 fine, four black points, and 60-day vehicle impoundment.

Driving dangeriuosly, speeding in rain: Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and 60-day vehicle impoundment.

Taking photos, videos while driving: Dh800 fine and four black points.

Using hazard lights: Dh500 fine and four black points.

Not adhering to authorities: Dh400 fine and four black points

Unstable weather condition

The UAE is currently experiencing highly unstable weather conditions driven by active convective cloud systems associated with a low-pressure system, bringing widespread rain of varying intensity across several regions.

The country has seen successive waves of rainfall affecting western areas, islands, coastal cities, and inland regions, with sudden bursts of heavy showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and occasional hail.

Weather conditions have been rapidly changing, particularly in Abu Dhabi and surrounding areas, where short periods of light rain have quickly intensified into heavy downpours due to fast-developing storm cells. While a brief lull is expected, forecasters indicate that another strong wave of unstable weather may impact the UAE before conditions gradually improve.
