European Session What Time: Trading Guide by Optimal Time Frame
To succeed in forex trading, you not only need a good strategy but also a clear understanding of the operating hours of major markets. The European session is one of the most important trading sessions you need to master to maximize profit opportunities. This article will help you understand what time the European session operates and why it is so important.
What time is the European session? Specific times by season
The European trading session, especially the London market, starts at different times depending on the time of year:
Summer (approximately March to October): The European session begins at 14:00 and ends at 23:00 Vietnam time. This is when Europe observes daylight saving time.
Winter (approximately November to February): The European session starts at 15:00 and closes at 00:00 Vietnam time. The one-hour difference is due to the change in time zones during winter.
Understanding what time the European session operates helps you plan your trading activities each day effectively.
U.S. trading session and daily trading times
In addition to the European session, the U.S. session (New York market) is also a key factor. This session operates as follows:
Summer: Starts at 19:00 and ends at 04:00 Vietnam time.
Winter: Starts at 20:00 and closes at 05:00 Vietnam time.
The U.S. session tends to be highly volatile because many important economic data releases occur, especially reports related to USD.
Peak volatility periods: When the European and U.S. sessions overlap
Trading opportunities are not always equal. There are three periods when prices tend to fluctuate most strongly:
Overlap between the two sessions (19:00 - 23:00 Vietnam time): This is when the European and U.S. sessions are both active, creating the highest trading volume. Markets experience the most significant volatility during this time due to abundant liquidity and important economic news.
Early European session (14:00 - 15:00 summer or 15:00 - 16:00 winter): When the European market just opens, traders often seize opportunities from the previous night, causing notable fluctuations.
When the U.S. session starts (19:00 - 20:00 summer or 20:00 - 21:00 winter): U.S. economic reports are released at this time, significantly impacting USD-related currency pairs.
Risk management tips: Choosing the right trading times
Knowing what time the European session operates not only helps you seize profit opportunities but also enables more effective risk management. Experienced traders often select high-liquidity periods to place orders and avoid overly volatile times if their strategies are not suited for high volatility.
Monitor currency pairs like XRP, BNB, and important economic news to optimize your trading strategy.
