Tehran has implemented a new approach to controlling the Strait of Hormuz by beginning to charge some ships $2 million, said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of Iran's parliamentary commission on national security and foreign policy. His remarks were reported by Iran International.

According to him, this measure has already been put into effect and reflects a "new sovereign regime" in the strait.

"Since war costs money, we naturally need to do this and charge vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz," he said.
