On March 20th local time, Mexican President López Obrador called for the U.S. government to conduct an in-depth investigation into the death of another Mexican citizen while in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. López Obrador stated that a stronger diplomatic note will be issued, and protests will be expressed through all channels, demanding a thorough investigation to prevent similar incidents. On the 19th, a 19-year-old Mexican man died while in ICE custody at the Glades County Detention Center in Florida, reportedly by suicide. As of now, the total number of deaths in ICE custody since 2026 has reached 13. In response, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the “unacceptable” deaths on the 19th and called for the U.S. immigration authorities to “conduct a prompt and thorough investigation to clarify the situation.” (CCTV News)
