JPMorgan pilots software to monitor junior bankers' working hours
The Wall Street bank is investigating whether the hours junior bankers log matches up with the estimates drawn from monitoring their weekly digital activities such as video calls, desktop keystrokes and scheduled meetings.
In a statement, JPMorgan says: “Much like the weekly screen time summaries on a smartphone, this tool is about awareness, not enforcement. It’s designed to support transparency, wellbeing, and encourage open conversations about workload.”
The heavy workloads endured by junior bankers has long been a concern within the industry. JPMorgan has put an 80-hours-a-week cap on its younger staff and curtailed weekend work.
However, according to the Financial Times, which first reported the pilot, some young staffers have been under-reporting their hours as they seek to get ahead in a notoriously competitive environment.
