Deep Tide TechFlow News, March 20 — According to Guangming Online, the Wanshan Public Security Bureau in Tongren City, Guizhou Province, recently cracked a case involving the use of a “read-only wallet” to commit fraud with virtual currency. Suspect Tan offered to purchase USDT at a high price,诱导 seller Chen to transfer 7,118 USDT (equivalent to over 50,000 RMB) into a “read-only wallet” address controlled by Tan. He then immediately transferred the assets and denied receiving the payment, attempting to embezzle both the USDT and 65,000 RMB in cash displayed on site.

The incident occurred on March 11. After discovering a high-priced USDT purchase offer on a platform, Chen contacted the other party. Tan gained Chen’s trust by showing大量现金 at a face-to-face交易现场,诱导 him to complete the transfer. After the transfer, Tan immediately turned hostile and denied everything. Chen then reported to the police. The police brought both parties in for investigation, revealing the scam. Tan’s lies were exposed by the evidence, and the case is still under further investigation.
