In January 2026, the eurozone's current account surplus expanded to €38 billion, up from €13 billion in the previous month, primarily benefiting from surpluses in goods and services trade. Over the 12-month period through January, the cumulative surplus reached €261 billion (representing 1.6% of GDP), down from €377 billion in the same period of the previous year. In terms of the financial account, non-residents' net purchases of eurozone securities portfolios reached €914 billion during the same period.
