# Destroying a Child: Keeping Them Home All Day
Many parents don't realize that
one reason children become rebellious and temperamental
is because they're frequently confined at home.
Li Meijing's suggestion:
"Don't let your child stay home studying all day long.
Otherwise, their cerebrum becomes highly stimulated
while their cerebellum receives no stimulation,
and when the brain nerves aren't fully activated,
psychological problems easily emerge."
Children's regulatory functions are inferior to adults':
- Ages 3-4: attention span of about 3-5 minutes
- Ages 7-10: attention span of about 20-30 minutes
Spending over a dozen hours daily facing computers and phones
with basically no external contact
easily causes children to suffer a breakdown
due to excessive depletion of self-control.
Research shows:
Prolonged exposure to monotonous environments
not only affects children's problem-solving abilities
but also impacts their emotions.
Clinical psychologist Lawrence once mentioned:
If you want to improve your child's attention span,
you can arrange one hour daily
for self-regulation games—jumping.
Research demonstrates:
Nature has a healing effect on both emotions and the body.
Children raised in green natural environments
have a 55% lower risk of anxiety and depression and other psychological problems.
So, let your children move around freely!
**1️⃣ Start within 10 kilometers of your surroundings, learn through play**
Begin traveling from areas near home.
Parks and bookstores within 10 kilometers of your neighborhood
are all worth visiting.
**2️⃣ Prepare nature exploration tools**
Such as magnifying glasses, bags and boxes
suitable for collecting plants and insects,
telescopes, and compasses.
**3️⃣ Teach your child to plan trips**
Let them find their own favorite destinations.
Review materials together with your child
to learn about the area's scenic attractions and customs.
Let them learn to plan each aspect of the trip.
This process itself is already a reward.
**4️⃣ Guide your child to complete a travel journal**
When traveling, choose destinations based on
your child's current language arts or history lessons.
After returning, guide them to complete a travel journal.
**5️⃣ Cultivate exercise as a habit for your child**
Before age 4, children haven't fully developed, so strenuous exercise isn't suitable.
But take them to parks and playgrounds more often,
guiding them to experience and explore various activities.
Ages 4-6: suitable activities are walking and running.
After age 6: skiing, swimming, cycling, and soccer can all be tried.
For introverted and shy children:
Team sports with competitive elements are suitable,
as they can improve social skills and help children release excessive tension.
For aggressive children:
Static exercises like ballet, tai chi, and mountain climbing are suitable,
as they can improve self-control
and make children calmer and more focused.
Famous educator Tao Xingzhi said:
"Free the child's mind, hands and feet, space and time,
allowing them to fully enjoy a free life,
and from this free life they will gain true education."
Take your children down roads and into villages they've never visited before,
exploring an unknown world.
Let them release stress through outdoor activities,
and they will inevitably discover a better version of themselves.
