Responding to the ISO 20022 standard, which aims to standardize the international financial system, has become an important theme in the cryptocurrency market as well. While only a limited number of cryptocurrencies currently comply with this standard announced by SWIFT, these projects are attracting market attention. Let’s examine the characteristics and value of ISO 20022-compatible cryptocurrencies based on current market data.

Significance of the ISO 20022 Standard and Its Impact on the Financial System

ISO 20022 is a financial messaging standard designed by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT). This standard plays a crucial role in unifying information exchange between different financial institutions and enabling automated communication between systems. SWIFT has been the core infrastructure supporting global interbank settlement systems for over 50 years, and updates to its standards have a significant impact on the entire financial industry.

The transition to ISO 20022 began in 2022 and was required to be completed by 2025. This is not just a technical update but a structural change that all financial institutions need to adapt to. Cryptocurrencies that support ISO 20022 may become part of the future international financial system.

XRP: A Leading Currency Well-Suited for ISO 20022

Ripple (XRP) is one of the most promising cryptocurrencies compatible with ISO 20022. Founded in 2012, XRP is not just a digital asset but was designed with integration with financial institutions in mind. When Bitcoin and Ethereum were created in 2009 and 2015 respectively, the ISO 20022 standard did not yet exist, but the XRP development team strategically incorporated support for this standard.

Currently, XRP is priced at $1.44 (as of March 19, 2026), having reached a historical high of $3.65 in the past. Between October 2024 and early 2025, XRP experienced significant price fluctuations. It hit a record high of $3.8 in January 2018 but was subsequently corrected during the bear market. The current price trend suggests that the functional value of XRP as an ISO 20022-compatible currency is being recognized by the market.

ADA, XLM, HBAR: Expectations vs. Reality

Cardano (ADA) ranks second among ISO 20022-compatible cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Its current price is $0.27, significantly down from its all-time high of $3.09, with ongoing substantial corrections. Unlike XRP, ADA has not shown comparable price increases, indicating that its support for ISO 20022 may not yet be fully reflected in its market valuation.

Stellar (XLM) was born as a decentralized spin-off of Ripple and has evolved independently while maintaining technical continuity with XRP. Its current price of $0.17 is well below its previous high of $0.88. Unlike XRP, XLM still appears to have a low market valuation as an ISO 20022-compatible currency.

Hedera (HBAR), launched in 2019, is a relatively new project. Its current price of $0.09 has fallen sharply from its all-time high of $0.57. However, a gradual upward trend has been observed from 2025 to early 2026, attracting attention to its future prospects.

ALGO, IOTA, QNT, XDC: Growing Support Currencies in Development

Algorand (ALGO) and IOTA have faced prolonged difficulties throughout the entire market cycle. ALGO is down approximately 85% from its all-time high of $3.56, and IOTA has declined over 90%. Current prices are $0.09 for ALGO and $0.06 for IOTA, indicating potential recovery but still remaining in a long-term downtrend.

QNT and XDC Network (XDC) show different market movements. QNT is currently priced at $76.44 (with a +7.79% change in 24 hours), down 72% from its peak of $427.42. XDC is at $0.03, with a decline of about 30%, showing relatively stable performance. Notably, XDC has been gradually rising from 2025 into early 2026, suggesting increasing recognition as an ISO 20022-compatible currency.

Considerations for Investment Strategies in ISO 20022-Compatible Cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrencies supporting ISO 20022 combine a unique value proposition of technical compatibility with varying market evaluations. Among the eight main supported currencies, XRP has gained the most market recognition, and XDC is gradually attracting attention. Meanwhile, ALGO and IOTA face long-term challenges with uncertain recovery prospects.

If the ISO 20022 standard becomes central to the international financial system, the value of supporting cryptocurrencies could increase further. However, technical compatibility alone does not guarantee market success; factors such as project management, community size, and actual collaboration with financial institutions also influence price formation. When considering investments in ISO 20022-compatible cryptocurrencies, it is essential to evaluate not only short-term price fluctuations but also medium- to long-term fundamentals.
