"#IranConfirmsLarijaniAssassinated" in English.
The situation in the Middle East has dramatically escalated as Iran officially confirmed the assassination of its top security official, Ali Larijani. The senior figure, who served as the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, was killed in what officials are calling a "targeted assassination" by US and Israeli forces .
According to reports, the strike early Tuesday also killed Larijani's son, Morteza, and several senior aides . An Israeli official claimed the operation was made possible by intelligence received from "residents of Tehran" over the preceding 24 hours .
This event marks one of the most significant escalations since the joint US-Israeli strikes in late February. Larijani had emerged as a key figure in Iran's political structure following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, acting as a bridge between the political establishment and the military apparatus .
In response to the assassination, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched missile strikes targeting Tel Aviv, using cluster warheads in what state media described as retaliation . The IRGC has vowed "definite revenge," stating that Larijani's "pure blood... will be a source of honour, strength, and national awakening" .
Despite the loss, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisted the assassination would not destabilise the country, emphasising that Iran has a "strong political structure" that does not rely on a single individual . Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the operation, stating that Israel is "operating from the air... undermining this regime" .
The conflict continues to widen, with reports of further strikes and rising tensions across the region .
