【AI+NVDA】Nvidia Reportedly Preparing to Push Groq AI Chips to China; Huang Renxun: Restarting H200 Production
NVIDIA (US: NVDA) is reportedly preparing to launch an AI chip called Groq aimed at the Chinese market. Additionally, CEO Jensen Huang stated that they are accelerating production of the H200 chip for Chinese customers.
NVIDIA spent $17 billion at the end of last year to license technology from AI startup Groq. According to sources cited by Reuters, the chips prepared for the Chinese market are not downgraded versions nor are they made exclusively for China. The sources said this new version can be adapted to other systems, and added that Groq’s chips are expected to be launched in May.
In addition, Huang said he has obtained sales approval for the H200 targeting “many Chinese customers” and is currently “resuming production.” He noted that this outlook is very different from a few weeks ago.
NVIDIA has been working hard to restore sales of its AI processors in China. The Trump administration has begun allowing NVIDIA and AMD to sell weaker-performing chip versions to China, but only with U.S. government approval. NVIDIA stated in a conference call last month that they had only received one license from the U.S. government, which limited exports of the H200 to China to a small quantity.
