CCTV Reporter learned on the 12th local time that Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced that the federal government will invest nearly 35 billion CAD to prepare for broader military operations in northern Canada, in order to counter potential threats facing North America and to maintain territorial sovereignty in the Arctic region.

Most of the 3.2 billion CAD will be used to upgrade forward operating locations in Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Iqaluit, as well as deployment bases in Five Wings Goose Bay. These facilities provide hangars, fuel, and accommodations to support fighter squadrons serving the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). (CCTV Reporter Zhang Yingzhe)
