China's Internet Users Surge to 1.125B

(MENAFN) China’s online population expanded to 1.125 billion users in 2024, with approximately 602 million individuals utilizing generative artificial intelligence platforms, new data from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) reveals.

The nation’s internet penetration rate reached 80.1%, a news agency reported.

The statistics emerged from the 57th Statistical Report on China’s Internet Development, issued by CNNIC, which underscored the ongoing nationwide expansion of digital infrastructure and the swift incorporation of cutting-edge technologies into commercial and personal spheres.

Generative AI adoption fueled much of this acceleration, registering a year-over-year surge of 141.7%, according to the report’s findings.

The analysis determined that China’s internet ecosystem achieved “significant progress” throughout the 2021–2025 timeframe, characterized by enhanced innovation capacity, more extensive technological deployment, and broadened digital access across demographics.
