IT House, February 13 — Apple today (February 13) released test firmware for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods 4, with internal version number 8B5034f.

IT House note: The latest stable versions of these three models differ—AirPods Pro 3 is 8B34, AirPods Pro 2 is 8B28, and AirPods 4 is 8B21.

Tech media MacRumors speculates that Apple may unify (at least temporarily) the firmware versions and optimize communication protocols and audio features. Regarding features, the official release of iOS 26.3 yesterday has already introduced new system features, and the new AirPods firmware is expected to support some of these.

Unlike manual updates on iPhone or Mac, firmware updates for AirPods are triggered passively and are relatively discreet. IT House cites a blog post explaining that users who want to ensure their devices are updated to the latest version should follow these steps:

First, ensure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is enabled;

Second, place the AirPods into the charging case and connect it to power;

Finally, keep the charging case lid closed and within Bluetooth range of the paired device, and wait at least 30 minutes. Users can then check the firmware version in system settings to see if it has changed to 8B5034f.
