Zcash Foundation's 2026 Strategy Unveiled: Zebra Upgrade, 312 Standards, and Privacy Assistance in Three Key Areas
The Zcash Foundation recently announced its core strategic plan for 2026, covering three main areas: technological upgrades, standards development, and ecosystem building. This plan reflects the foundation’s ongoing investment in privacy protection technology and its pursuit of the security and usability of digital cash.
Zebra Node Upgrade: From Performance Optimization to Ecosystem Replacement
As the sole consensus node implementation in the Zcash ecosystem, Zebra is undergoing a significant upgrade. The foundation plans to focus on improving Zebra’s performance while completing the implementation of the NU7 ZIP. More importantly, they are also advancing the Z3 technology stack to gradually replace the traditional zcashd node implementation. This transition will modernize the Zcash network infrastructure, providing users with a more stable and efficient experience.
FROST Threshold Signature Scheme Deepening: Completion of the 312 Standard
FROST (Flexible Round-Optimized Schnorr Threshold Signatures), a key solution for distributed signatures, will see major progress in 2026. The foundation plans to release FROST v3, finalize the ZIP-312 specification, and introduce a Distributed Key Generation (DKG) protocol. Completing the 312 standard means that Zcash will have more standardized and reliable support for multi-signature and wallet security applications, which is crucial for enhancing the overall ecosystem’s security.
Privacy Protection Assistance Program: From Technology to Practical Application
The Privacy Assistance Program represents a new approach by the Zcash Foundation toward social applications. They promote a “privacy by default” model for digital cash aid, meaning that the identities and transaction details of aid recipients can be naturally protected during humanitarian assistance. Additionally, the foundation is exploring zero-knowledge proof-based identity solutions to find a balance between compliance, accountability, and privacy—one of the most challenging issues in the current digital privacy field.
Three Global Events in 2026: Bringing Developers Together to Discuss the Future
To encourage community participation and technical exchange, the Zcash Foundation announced three major events in 2026. Zcomm will be held online on March 24, providing a real-time platform for global developers. The Zcash Dev Summit is scheduled for May 8 in Rome, Italy (Beijing time), serving as an important forum for in-depth technical discussions among developers. Finally, Zcon7 will take place from October 27 to 29 in Cancun, Mexico (Beijing time), where community members will gather to discuss the long-term development of the Zcash ecosystem.
