#Gate广场发帖领五万美金红包 This morning, Old Hu took his young granddaughter to visit the Beijing Longtan Temple Fair and found that the traffic restrictions were much stricter than around the Temple of Heaven Fair I visited yesterday. Yesterday, the fourth day of the lunar new year, taxis could directly go to the East Gate of the Temple of Heaven. But this morning, on the fifth day, when going to Longtan Temple Fair, taxis were stopped from quite a distance away. When leaving, I took a different exit, only to find I had to walk even further before leaving the traffic control zone, then hailed a taxi.

Many elderly and children were visiting the fair, and walking nearly 1 kilometer in and out was quite difficult.
In fact, the crowd at the Temple of Heaven Fair is much larger than at Longtan Temple Fair, and the roads around Longtan Lake are wider. The original intention of restricting traffic was undoubtedly to create a more orderly environment around the fair, and the restriction zones were announced in advance, which is considerate. But good intentions should match reality. The reality is that on the fifth day, Longtan Temple Fair simply doesn’t have as many visitors as the Temple of Heaven yesterday, and it’s far less crowded. Yesterday, taxis could go directly to the East Gate of the Temple of Heaven, so why are vehicle bans set up at the park’s two main gates about 1 kilometer apart (my estimate may not be entirely accurate) for Longtan Lake? And why ban taxis altogether?
I believe that holiday traffic restrictions should be moderate and adjusted in real time. We should prevent “restrictions just for the sake of restrictions” and over-limiting traffic. If there aren’t that many people and cars, adjustments should be quicker and more flexible.
There are two days left of the Spring Festival holiday. I hope the traffic restrictions around Longtan Lake can be significantly reduced to make it easier for visitors to enjoy the fair. This is just a small suggestion from Old Hu.
Finally, I want to say that both the Temple of Heaven and Longtan Lake are under the jurisdiction of Beijing’s Dongcheng District. The vastly different traffic restrictions happening within the same administrative area shouldn’t be due to “management philosophies,” but rather operational issues. If I’m wrong, I welcome criticism.
