At a 4-year low.. Why is Trump's view of a weak dollar considered good news?
Despite the US dollar falling to its lowest level in 4 years, President Donald Trump described it as "great," indicating that a weak dollar could be beneficial rather than negative.
Trump said about the weaker dollar: "I think it's great. I mean, the value of the dollar, look at the volume of business we're doing. The dollar is performing wonderfully."
He added: "If you look at China or Japan, I was always fighting with them hard because they always want to devalue the yen and the yuan, and I would say, 'That's unfair.' They devalue because it's hard to compete when they lower their currencies."
️ Why does Trump see a weak dollar as good news?
Increases US export competitiveness: Makes American goods cheaper abroad and boosts global demand.
Boosts profits of US multinational companies: All their foreign profits convert to more dollars when the currency value drops.
Supports stock markets: Major companies like Apple, Microsoft, and McDonald's benefit from a weak dollar, which raises their stock prices.
