Stocks with CA - The symbol investors need to know before entering the market
When entering the main securities application to view stock information, you may encounter various mysterious symbols behind stock codes, such as CA, XD, XM, T1, H, etc. These symbols are not randomly chosen but are important signals indicating the status and risk level of the stock. Understanding the meaning of each symbol will help you make informed investment decisions and avoid unnecessary risks.
Why Knowing About Stocks with CA and Other Symbols Matters
Before delving into details, the importance of recognizing these symbols is to understand what events are about to happen to the stock. CA (Corporate Action) is an abbreviation for the company’s actions, meaning “This stock will undergo significant changes within the next 7 days.”
When you see CA attached to a stock, you can click to view details about what the change is, when it will happen, and how it will affect your rights. If you do not understand these abbreviations, you might miss opportunities or make investments at inappropriate times.
3 Main Types of Stock Symbols
The symbols appearing behind stocks can be divided into 3 main groups, each with different meanings and impacts:
1. X Group - “Excluding” (Rights Not Included)
Symbols starting with X mean “If you buy the stock now, you will not receive certain rights.” Let’s look at each in detail:
XD - Excluding Dividend (No Dividend Rights)
A stock marked XD means you lose the right to receive dividends in this round. To receive dividends, you must buy the stock before the date XD appears. A common question is “How long do I need to hold the stock?” The simple answer is - buy it the day before the XD date. Whether you buy close to or far from the XD date, the dividend remains the same.
XM - Excluding Meetings (Not Attending Shareholder Meetings)
If you want to participate in the annual shareholder meeting to be involved in decision-making about the company’s regulations, you must buy before XM appears.
XW - Excluding Warrant (Not Subscribing for Warrant Shares)
Warrant stocks (Warrant) are rights that allow you to convert into common shares. To obtain this right, you must buy before XW appears.
XS, XR, XT, XI, XP, XA, XE, XN, XB
Besides the above symbols, there are many others, such as:
2. T Group - “Trading Alert” (경고ระดับการเก็งกำไร)
A stock with a T suffix indicates that its price has surged rapidly and carries high risk. The stock exchange implements control measures, divided into 3 levels:
T1 - Trading Alert Level 1
Must be purchased with cash only (Cash Balance Account) for a period of 3 weeks if the price continues to rise.
T2 - Trading Alert Level 2
Stocks that are T1 and still meet risk criteria after announcing measures for no more than 1 month will escalate to T2. Must be purchased with cash only and cannot be used as collateral. Also installed for 3 weeks.
T3 - Trading Alert Level 3
When T2 stocks still meet risk criteria, they escalate to T3, which has the strictest restrictions - buy with cash only, cannot be used as collateral, and (Settlement) is prohibited, meaning that when selling the stock, you must wait until the next day to withdraw funds, not immediately.
3. Investor Warning Symbols
These symbols serve as alerts to warn you to be cautious or avoid.
H - Trading Halt (Temporary Trading Suspension)
The stock is halted for just 1 trading session (Each day has 2 sessions - morning and afternoon). Reason: Important news has been leaked but the company has not officially notified the stock exchange.
SP - Trading Suspension (Longer than 1 session)
The stock is halted for more than 1 session. Same reason as H or additional reasons such as the company not submitting financial statements.
NP - Notice Pending (Awaiting Notification)
The company has important information to report to the market. Once submitted, it will change to NR (Notice Received).
NC - Non-Compliance (Non-Compliance)
The company risks being delisted from the market due to reasons such as consecutive losses over several years or failure to submit financial statements for a long period. The company has 1 year to rectify.
ST - Stabilization (Price Stabilization)
Often seen in new IPO stocks. The company uses the “Greenshoe” measure, which involves issuing more shares than planned to “support the price” and prevent it from falling during the first 30 days.
C - Caution (High Alert)
Serious financial problems, shareholder equity less than 50% of capital, or court petitions for business rehabilitation. This indicates “Stop investing for now. High risk.”
Summary
Stocks with CA mark the beginning of understanding the stock exchange’s information notification system. All symbols described above, whether X, T, or warning signs, serve the purpose of “warning investors” about the situation to help make appropriate decisions.
Clicking to view more details behind the stock code will help you understand and plan safer investments. Always remember: before clicking buy, know what you are purchasing and the current status of the stock.
