Overheard some soon to be college graduates discussing their career prospects yesterday. Typical finance and business majors (4 kids total), 3 of them saying how they can't find any internships or job opportunities.
The 4th went to trade school to be an electrician, talking about how work is going well and AI is less likely to take his job. The other 3 agreed, but with a sense of defeat in their tone, like it shouldn't be that way. The once promised path of college -> job -> earn a living doesn't seem to be that promised anymore.
Couple that with cost of living through the roof, asset prices through the roof so it investments don't make much sense, I question what is the route for the youth? Not everyone is going to be a famous streamer or youtuber, in fact almost no one will. It's very much a 1 in 10 million type career if not less.
It makes sense why gambling is so big nowadays, the ordinary IQ person doesn't seem to have a chance to create a decent life for themselves. Although obviously gambling is not the answer either. And I imagine AI only continues to take more and more jobs. I'm glad I built myself a strong cushion working hard over the past 10~ years, I don't envy those trying to find their way from zero starting today. It seems harder than ever.
The future seems very bright for the top 1% and very grim for everyone else.
