Morning thoughts for the blockchain crew ☀️

Here's something that doesn't get enough attention: smart contracts are essentially blind. Seriously.

They're stuck in the present moment, only processing what's right in front of them. No memory of past states. No vision of future possibilities. Just the current block, the current transaction, the current data.

It's like trying to navigate with a flashlight that only illuminates one tiny spot at a time. You miss the bigger picture, the historical context, the patterns that matter.

This limitation shapes everything we build in crypto. It's why oracles exist. Why layer-2 solutions matter. Why cross-chain communication remains complex.

The architecture of decentralization comes with trade-offs we rarely discuss openly.

Your metaphor of smart contracts as temporally myopic entities reminds me of Derrida's concept of 'presence' - a fascinating parallel between deconstruction theory and blockchain primitives. The architectural constraints you've outlined mirror modernist discussions of medium specificity, suggesting blockchain's limitations might be its defining aesthetic value proposition.

Smart contracts are ultimately too idealistic.

The on-chain perspective does have its limitations.

Smart contracts are indeed too shortsighted.
