Recognizing hidden symbols in Web3: What lies behind the numbers 1488

Dangerous symbolism in the digital space

The numerical combination 1488 is not a random set of digits, but a coded symbol actively used by far-right groups and neo-Nazis in various online communities, including some segments of Web3.

This code consists of two key parts:

The number “14” is an encrypted message

The first part of the code “14” refers to the so-called “14 words”:

“We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.” (“We must ensure the existence of our people and a future for white children”)

This statement belongs to David Lane - an American terrorist, a member of the extremist group The Order, which was involved in a series of violent crimes in the 1980s, including murders, robberies, and terrorist acts 💣. Lane was sentenced to life imprisonment and died in prison.

The number “88” is a hidden Nazi symbol

The second part of the code “88” is deciphered as follows:

  • 8 corresponds to the letter H in the Latin alphabet (eighth in order)
  • 88 = HH = Heil Hitler

This is a method of covert communication to identify “ours” in public spaces without directly using prohibited symbols 🕵️

How to recognize extremist symbols in the Web3 space

The combination “1488” in the context of Web3 and crypto communities may indicate:

  • Commitment to the ideas of racial superiority 👎
  • Support for neo-Nazi ideology
  • Possible affiliation with extremist groups

Where can this symbolism be found:

  • In users' nicknames on crypto platforms
  • In the titles of NFT collections and tokens
  • In the profiles of community members
  • In the comments under posts about crypto projects
  • In graffiti and visual content related to Web3

Security in Digital Communities

⚠️ Important for members of crypto communities:

If you see “1488” in someone's nickname or profile on trading platforms, it is usually not a coincidence, but a deliberate use of symbolism related to:

  1. Extremist views and potentially aggressive behavior
  2. The ideology that led to global tragedies and mass loss of life

The use of such symbols is not a joke or a harmless choice — it is a conscious demonstration of support for dangerous ideologies, which may violate the rules of most legitimate platforms and communities in the Web3 space.

Why it is important for members of the crypto community to know this

The recognition of such symbols helps to maintain a healthy and inclusive environment in crypto communities, where technology and financial opportunities play the main role, rather than discriminatory ideologies. Responsible crypto platforms typically have moderation mechanisms to prevent the spread of extremist content.
