In the south of Benin, there is a unique village known as the "Venice of Africa," Ganvié. The residents have lived in stilt houses on the lake for generations, and every day, children need to paddle canoes through the water alleys to attend Dogodo Primary School. Although this scene seems poetic, it hides many real-life challenges.
Transportation difficulties, lack of infrastructure, deteriorating ecological environment, and shortage of educational resources have posed multiple survival and development challenges for children here. However, a public welfare event named "From Water Alleys to Classrooms: Illuminating the Future of Children in Benin" has brought new hope to this water town.
On May 28, 2025, the InitVerse team partnered with the local Lion charity organization in Benin to introduce the innovative concept of Web3 into this water-networked village. This event is not just a simple charitable act, but a strong attempt to combine Web3 technology with the real needs of society.
After in-depth communication with the teachers of Dogodo Primary School, the event brought practical assistance to over 120 teachers and students. InitVerse firmly believes that the true value of technology lies not only in technological breakthroughs but also in serving the broader practical needs of the global community. Through this on-site initiative, InitVerse demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling social responsibilities as a Web3 project, while conveying the core concept of "Web3 serving real needs" to the local residents.
On the day of the event, the morning sun shone on the calm surface of the lake, as boats carrying school bags, dictionaries, sketchbooks, and various stationery gradually arrived at the school. Considering the special environment of the region—where even drinking water needs to be fetched with buckets—the event organizers specifically chose notebooks with better waterproof performance to cope with the possible rainy season and humid conditions.
This charity event not only brought much-needed learning supplies to the children of Ganvié but also opened a window to a broader world for them. Through the application of Web3 technology, we hope to provide these children living on the water with more diverse educational resources and development opportunities.
Despite the numerous challenges faced by Ganvié, with organizations like InitVerse continuously striving, it is believed that this unique water community will usher in a brighter future. This event also provides a replicable solution for similar predicaments in other regions, demonstrating how technological innovation can practically improve the quality of life for people in remote areas.
