Grows in grasslands or along ditches at altitudes of 450-1800 meters. Found in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang in China. Also found in North Korea, Japan, and Russia. The type specimen was collected from Japan.
