Russia has postponed the large-scale application of the digital ruble until 2026, having completed over 70,000 transfer and payment tests.

On June 20, Anatoly Aksakov, chairman of the Financial Market Committee of the Russian State Duma, said on June 18 that the large-scale application of the digital ruble is now scheduled for 2026. Originally scheduled to go live after July 1, 2025, the rollout has been delayed as financial institutions need more time to improve their infrastructure. Since its launch in August 2023, the pilot has expanded to 15 banks, about 2,000 individuals and 50 businesses, and has processed more than 55,000 personal transfers and 15,000 product payments. The Central Bank of Russia stressed that the digital ruble is completely voluntary and will not cancel cash or non-cash forms of payment.
