In Ukraine, the creation of the first large language model (LLM) has begun, which will operate with consideration of the Ukrainian context. This was announced by the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology Mykhailo Fedorov.

According to him, the strategic investor and partner of the project has become the mobile operator Kyivstar. It is known that it is planned to create an LLM that understands the Ukrainian language, history, and modern context more deeply.

In addition, the official spoke about the key advantages of the Ukrainian LLM. The first is quality, as the model will learn from Ukrainian data. At the same time, it will be more affordable for Ukrainian users. Special attention is paid to security — data will be stored within the country and will be securely protected, particularly for the needs of the state and defense.

The first version of the model is planned to be presented by the end of 2025. It will be available for government institutions, universities, researchers, representatives of the public sector, and businesses.

Recall that at the beginning of 2025, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the “Ukrainian Startup Fund” launched the Sandbox project for startups in the field of AI and blockchain.
