He Yadong, spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, responded to questions about the first meeting of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism at a regular press conference on June 12. It is reported that the delegations of the two sides held the first round of talks in London from June 9 to 10. During the meeting, the United States and China agreed in principle on how to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders during the June 5 phone call and the framework of measures to consolidate the gains made at the previous economic and trade talks in Geneva. In addition, new progress has been made in addressing issues of mutual concern between the two sides in the economic and trade fields. He Yadong said that in the future, the two sides will make full use of this consultation mechanism, maintain continuous communication and dialogue, strive to enhance consensus, reduce misunderstandings, strengthen cooperation, and jointly promote the steady development of China-US economic and trade relations. The outcome of the meeting shows that despite the complexity of China-US relations, seeking practical cooperation in the economic and trade fields is still a common aspiration of both sides.
