According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the total amount of steel imported by the U.S. from Mexico last year was approximately 3.2 million tons, accounting for 12% of total U.S. steel imports.
During Trump’s first term, the United States and Mexico reached an agreement in 2019 to prevent the import volume from exceeding the average level during the period of 2015-2017.
