Encryption advocacy group defends Samourai Wallet but is rejected by the judge; developers still face "unlicensed remittance" charges.

Crypto advocacy groups such as the Blockchain Association, CoinCenter, DeFi Education Fund, and the Bitcoin Policy Institute have reportedly called for the dismissal of the case against Samourai, a bitcoin mixing service. These groups argue that SamouraiWallet is simply helping people perform financial transactions online without violating U.S. law. Still, federal judges this week declined to accept amicus brief briefings from these groups. Previously, the U.S. government shut down SamouraiWallet and arrested its developers, accusing the app of being used by criminals as an “unlicensed money transfer business.”
