Hong Kong announces the implementation date of the stablecoin regulations, which will officially take effect in August 2025.
It has been reported that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today (June 6) gazetted the Stablecoins Ordinance (Commencement) Notice, designating August 1, 2025 as the commencement date of the Stablecoins Ordinance (Cap. 656) (the Ordinance). The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui, said, "Upon the commencement of the Ordinance, the licensing regime will provide appropriate regulation for the relevant stablecoin activities, which is a milestone in promoting the sustainable development of Hong Kong’s stablecoin and digital asset ecosystem. "
