On September 19, 2024, Trump visited New York's famous Crypto Assets-themed bar, PubKey Bar, and purchased hamburgers using Bitcoin.
Donald Trump's purchase of hamburgers is historically significant as it marks the first time a former U.S. president has publicly used any form of Crypto Assets for a purchase.
In Trump's case, he paid for dozens of hamburgers through Strike, totaling $998.70. Strike is one of the most popular applications using the Lighting Network. The bar uses Zaprite on the receiving end to process Bitcoin payments.
PubKey co-founder Drew Armstrong (Drew Armstrong) confirmed that he indeed sold these hamburgers, and the president even personally distributed them, jokingly calling them "Crypto Hamburgers."
