The Day of Dogecoin has been celebrated since 2021. At that time, as a reference to the frivolous nature of the project and memes, the event was timed to 4/20 — the American Marijuana Day.
As of the time of writing, the coin's price remains relatively stable at $0.158 — 78.5% lower than the historical maximum recorded on May 8, 2021, at $0.7316.
On the same day last year, the price was around $16.25.
Between November 2024 and March 2025, the rate of the "first meme coin" rose above $0.45 against the backdrop of the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency in the USA, with DOGE as its acronym and Elon Musk at the helm. Due to the similarity in name and Musk's past fondness for Dogecoin, rumors arose in the community about a special role for the coin within the department. Later, the entrepreneur distanced himself and the new agency from the meme project, and the quotes returned to around $0.15.
In addition to 4/20, the community celebrates the birthday of Dogecoin — the anniversary of the release of the genesis block on December 6.
