Amazon AWS: Some EC2 instances experienced connectivity issues, which have now been resolved.

On April 15, Amazon AWS released an update stating that “Between 12:40 AM AND 1:43 A.M. PACIFIC TIME, A PORTION OF EC2 INSTANCES LOCATED IN A SINGLE AVAILABILITY ZONE (APNE1-az4) IN THE AP-NORTHEAST-1 REGION (AP-NORTHEAST-1) EXPERIENCED CONNECTIVITY ISSUES. The issue stems from a simultaneous interruption of the primary and standby power supplies, affecting the normal operation of the EC2 instances in question. During this time, customers may experience higher error rates and latency on instances launched in the affected region, and other AWS APIs that partially rely on these EC2 instances may also be impacted. Our engineers automatically intervene within minutes and immediately begin troubleshooting and implementing remedial actions. We don’t think the issue will happen again. Only a very small number of instances are still deployed on hardware affected by power outages. Efforts will continue to be made to recover all affected instances and volumes, but for immediate recovery, it is recommended that you replace those instances or storage volumes that have not yet been recovered, if possible. The issue has now been resolved and the service has resumed normal operation.”
