Tyler Beaudin — the Co-Founder of Torah
I’m Tyler Beaudin, an eco developer at Torah. After graduating from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, I went on to spend the first few years of my career as an analyst at Goldman Sachs. After, I transitioned into VC investing with a focus on early-stage tech startups. Q1: Could you please introduce the Torah project?
John: Torah makes idle servers and intelligent hardware the entrance to the Web 3.0 application eco! Torah’s Vortex Protocol and POD data interaction concept provide a solid hardware infrastructure for Torah’s implementation of WEB 3.0.
Q2: What are the advantages and characteristics of distributed storage compared with traditional data storage?
John: In my opinion, the advantages of distributed storage are mainly reflected in three aspects:first, security, second, efficiency (cost and value), and third, the compatibility of ecological applications.
Now let’s talk about Torah: At present, the speed of technological progress is quite fast, and the number and performance of intelligent hardware around us are growing rapidly.
As modern people, we may know how to use these hardware, but we may not realize that there is some computing power hidden in these intelligent hardware, and this computing power has been idle.
People who have contacted blockchain may have heard of the concept of meta universe, but in fact, people who have a deep understanding of meta universe should know that the current meta universe is still in a very early stage, and one of the major factors hindering its development is the limitation of computing power.
The meta universe needs huge computing power, which can not be provided by any central organization. Therefore, if we really want to make good progress in the future, every user’s hardware may be involved.
Therefore, in Torah’s concept, hardware has always been in an extremely important position. If you can make use of the idle hardware resources in your hands, make contributions to the development of the Metauniverse and Web3, and get some rewards at the same time, it will form a virtuous circle.
At the same time, this kind of reuse of idle resources will also be of great significance for energy conservation and environmental protection. This is also the difference between Torah and traditional mining. It can use these idle intelligent hardware through two core technologies.
The first is the distributed database we just mentioned, namely FDB;
The second technology is called FMS, which is an Internet of Things technology. It can directly connect all the user’s intelligent hardware to provide computing support.
With the combination of these two technologies, Torah can centralize a large number of idle computing resources and provide support for many applications through distributed databases.
For example, through Torah, ordinary users can use their idle resources to contribute computing power to the underlying servers of Twitter or Facebook. In this process, people will also receive dividends from Twitter or Facebook.
This not only promotes the recycling of idle resources, but also binds ordinary users with large enterprises, which to some extent coincides with the concept of Web3.
Therefore, we also firmly believe that we can create a new Web3 era by making full use of people’s idle hardware through Torah.
Q3: When it comes to the distributed storage track, you will always think of the popular filecoin. What are the differences and advantages between Torah and them?
John: There are many projects on the track of distributed storage. The more famous one is IPFS, mainly distributed file storage. Torah focuses on distributed data storage. Compared with IPFS, Torah’s core advantages are mainly divided into the following aspects
The first is the cost. Filecoin’s investment in mechanical hardware is huge. If users want to participate in it, they need to invest in a lot of hard disks. But Torah is different from them. It mainly uses people’s idle hardware resources, such as home computers and idle hard disks. This means that if people want to participate in Torah, they can recycle some idle resources without any additional investment.
Secondly, in terms of the operating threshold, Torah has the lowest operating difficulty and does not need to use the Linux like IPFS.
Moreover, Filecoin and Chia both adopt PoS rights and interest proof mechanisms. Torah, on the other hand, adopts PoD data interaction proof mechanism, which emphasizes more on data connectivity between distributed data stores. Therefore, Filecoin and Chia are very different from Torah’s incentive mechanism (mining method).
It is worth emphasizing that there are economic models in the ecos of Filecoin and Torah (Chia has no economic model). However, Torah’s economic model is obviously more advantageous.
Filecoin has existed for about 7 years so far, and its technology or concept will inevitably lag behind. Torah was born in recent years, and its technology and philosophy are also the latest. Moreover, for the moment, Torah’s utilization of idle resources, economic model and currency price performance are in a good state.
Of course, thanks to its learning from Filecoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin and other predecessors, Torah was able to avoid excessive hardware investment, high technical threshold, and some relatively unreasonable economic models.
The most important thing is that Torah’s biggest feature is its distributed database, which has great advantages in the application level. It can be said that in the ecological sector, I will look forward to Torah’s performance. When we analyze a project, the ecology of the project is a very important concern. Whether it has enough ecology, whether it can be implemented, and whether it has better development potential are important criteria.
Q4: How is Torah’s ecological application closed-loop deployed?
John: At present, Torah can actually be regarded as an underlying protocol. The advantages of the underlying technology are obvious. It is very solid, reliable and rooted. Torah combines distributed data storage and Internet of Things technology, making full use of the front intelligent hardware and servers. Torah has developed a new ecology.
Q5: Can you please tell us what is the economic model and empowerment of the VP?
John: VP is the core and only token of Torah, with a total of 102.4 million tokens. But these tokens can not be dug up in a day. According to the official plan, 90% of them will be produced in 40 years, and the production will decline every year.
The core of Torah is actually a technology based on distributed data storage. Its reward mechanism is different from PoS and PoW mining. Therefore, the first three years can be said to be the golden period for Torah mining.
At present, the number of global nodes of Torah is about 24000. In the official planning of Torah, when the number of global nodes reaches more than 100000, Torah will launch an independent public chain.
The current number of global addresses of Torah is about 30942, and the number of global transfers is about 106000,. At present, the number of nodes in the whole network is about 24000, and each node means a server. With the addition of more and more servers and intelligent hardware, Torah’s data nodes will grow stronger.
Secondly, Torah has a fairly perfect economic model. Compared with Filecoin, Torah economic model is better.
- As TORAH can use idle desktop computers to participate, Torah has more advantages in the cost of hardware machines. In addition, the pre pledge period of torah is 390 days. After the expiration, it can be taken back, which is equivalent to a consensus award.
- In terms of post pledge, within the first five months of the pledge, Torah can withdraw 20% of the pledged tokens at any time, with no limit on the number of times. This means that users can even submit all pledged tokens within one day. IPFS requires a linear release of up to 180 days, and its cycle is relatively long.
Most of Torah’s early participants are institutions and retail investors who have hardware and want to participate in the construction of Web3. However, as Torah only requires normal bandwidth, performance and power supply, users will not need to invest too much in hardware, and its core is green.
Torah will log on to large exchanges in November and December, such as gate, Kucoin, HUOBI, etc., and launch ecological applications with TORAH as the underlying technology, which will be launched in succession.
