The ZKSync airdrop rules are finally released! How will they be distributed? Who is eligible to receive them?
Compiled by Karen, Foresight News
The highly anticipated ZKsync airdrop distribution plan has been finalized. The ZKsync Association will airdrop a one-time 3.6 billion ZK tokens to early users and adopters of ZKsync next week, with 695,232 eligible wallets. The snapshot was taken on March 24th, and community members can check their eligibility for the airdrop on the Claim.zknation.io website and can claim the airdrop from next week until January 3, 2025.
This airdrop accounts for 17.5% of the total supply of ZK tokens. Users will be able to claim their tokens from next week until January 3, 2025. Contributors can claim their tokens starting from June 24th.
Who is eligible for the ZKsync Airdrop?
Two types of ZKsync users are eligible for a total of 17.5% airdrop eligibility:
Users (89%): ZKsync users who trade on ZKsync and reach the activity threshold.
Contributors (11%): Individuals, developers, researchers, communities, and companies who contribute to the ZKsync ecosystem and protocol through development, promotion, or education, unrelated to activities on ZKsync.
The eligibility and distribution of the airdrop are based on the ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite activity snapshots taken at 00:00 UTC on March 24, 2024, to commemorate the first anniversary of the ZKsync Era mainnet launch.
How is the ZKsync airdrop distributed?
Qualification: ZKsync has examined each address that has conducted transactions on ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite according to the qualification criteria, in order to identify the genuine users who have spent time exploring ZKsync. Each address must have at least one point to be eligible for the airdrop.
Distribution: After determining the eligibility of the wallet, the airdrop distribution is calculated based on the cross-chain encrypted assets to ZKsync Era. The formula adjusts the allocation of the address based on the assets in ZKsync Era (in the wallet and DeFi) and the existence time of these assets in the ZKsync era. The more points obtained, the larger the final distribution amount, with a maximum airdrop limit of 100,000 ZK for a single address.
Multiplier: Each address can receive a multiplier based on activities that indicate genuine human behavior or high potential contributions to ZKsync. These multipliers apply to eligibility and distribution used in ZKsync Era and Lite.
Each address that meets the above ‘qualifications’, ‘allocation’, and ‘maturity’ is granted a token allocation. A single address must meet the minimum requirement of 450 ZK, with a maximum airdrop limit of 100,000 ZK. Tokens for addresses with less than 450 ZK will be reclaimed back into the pool.
Witch Detection: This airdrop aims to reward ‘real users’. The vast majority of witch addresses have been eliminated through qualification and allocation criteria. Each wallet has undergone additional witch detection steps. ZKsync states that there are over 6 million independent addresses on the ZKsync Era, and the ZK airdrop focuses on using a people-centric approach to identify real users. The on-chain history of the wallet reveals a lot of information about the habits of its owner. Real people are often willing to take risks, especially those who feel they are part of the community. They spend time on-chain, ape in, trade, try new protocols, and hold speculative assets. The assets connected to real users will eventually flow into DApps and DeFi protocols, becoming the lifeblood of a high-liquidity ecosystem. Users should be rewarded proportionally based on their impact on the success of ZKsync.
In the contributor airdrop, more than half (5.8%) of the allocation includes the treasury of the ZKsync native project based on ZKsync Era, including DeFi protocols, ZK chains, NFT collections, decentralized markets, infrastructure, games, etc. The remaining contributor airdrop is allocated to contributors, companies, and individuals who have laid the foundation for ZKysnc:
Contributors to the Ethereum development organization, including execution clients, consensus clients, developer tools, RPC, and other projects that have a positive impact on ZKsync.
Contributors to advanced blockchain technology repositories that have directly or indirectly contributed to the success of ZKsync, including important work related to blockchain, zero-knowledge proofs, developer tools, and developer education.
Educators who provide training for developers and security researchers, and contribute to the ZKsync community center on GitHub.
Contributors to Github repositories dedicated to zero-knowledge proofs, Ethereum development tools, and open source software.
Security researchers participating in audit competitions organized by Cantina, Code4rena, and CodeHawks.
ZKsync community mods, ZK Credo translators, ZK Quest participants, and on-site event participants.
In addition, 0.4875% of the total supply is allocated to a small group of experimental on-chain communities to explore new ways of organizing using tokens and NFTs. These communities include $DEGEN and $BONSAI airdrop recipients, Crypto the Game players, and Pudgy and Milady holders.
The ZKsync snapshot will be taken on March 24th. Community members can check their eligibility for the airdrop on the Claim.zknation.io website and claim the airdrop from next week until January 3rd, 2025. Eligible GitHub developers and ZKsync GitHub Discussion Helpers must associate their addresses with their accounts before June 25th. External projects, Protocol Guild, and ZKsync native project contributors will be able to claim starting from June 24th, 2024.
How are ZKsync tokens allocated?
The total supply of ZK tokens is 21 billion tokens, with 66.7% allocated to the community, 19.9% to ecosystem incentives (distributed by the ZKsync Foundation), 17.2% to investors, 16.1% to the team, and 29.3% to Token Assembly. Tokens allocated to investors and the team will be locked in the first year and then unlocked over a period of 3 years from June 2025 to June 2028.
ZKsync stated that two-thirds (about 67%) of the ZK tokens will be allocated to the community. Among them, 17.5% of the total supply will be distributed through a one-time airdrop, and the remaining community tokens will be distributed over time through ecosystem plans managed by the ZKsync Foundation and ZK Nation governance processes to support the continuously developing ecosystem.
