Since its launch, Web3 games have been attracting global attention. But which countries are really leading the adoption of Web3 games? We will review the Web3 gaming industry from 2021 to 2023 and find out which countries or regions have shown strong interest in Web3 gaming.
According to CoinGecko ( ), 9 countries and regions are at the forefront of Web3 gaming, showing unanimous enthusiasm for this revolutionary trend. These include the Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, Hong Kong, China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They consistently appear in the top 15 most searched terms related to Web3 games, which shows that in these countries, this novel gaming trend has a profound impact.
Southeast Asia: The main force of Web3 games
Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam, has been an undeniable powerhouse in this area, dominating the global top 15 rankings significantly for many years. Back in 2021, this dynamic region had five countries in the top 15, with Indonesia and South Asia’s India tied for 15th place.
In 2022, Southeast Asia’s influence has grown further, with two more countries added to the list. However, only the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam continue to shine in the top 15 in 2023, proving their unabated enthusiasm for Web3 games.
Let’s turn our attention to East Asia. South Korea, Hong Kong, and mainland China have always been the countries or regions most fascinated by Web3 games. However, other countries or regions in the region have not yet entered the top 15.
In South Asia, interest in Web3 games has been a roller coaster ride. Initially, the region had three countries in the top 15 in 2021, but this dropped to just one in 2022 and saw a significant recovery in 2023, with four countries on the list. Pakistan stands out and has shown an unwavering interest in Web3 games over the years.
**Coming to 2023, the Philippines still tops the list, becoming the country most interested in Web3 games for three consecutive years. **Nigeria, Pakistan and Singapore are closely followed, all of which have made welcome improvements in their rankings.
Meanwhile, South Korea overtook Hong Kong and mainland China to rank sixth, reflecting a steady increase in interest over the years. On the other hand, Vietnam, Mainland China and the United Arab Emirates dropped in ranking due to declining search interest.
Europe has also joined the ranks in 2023, with the Netherlands leading the way as the only European country in the top 15. The achievement comes after search interest in the country more than doubled from the previous two years.
There are also four new contenders for 2023, with Kenya, Lebanon and Sri Lanka joining the Netherlands in the top 15 for the first time, outperforming even the United Arab Emirates, which has been in the top 15 for three years in a row.
In South Asia, Nepal and India returned to the top 15 after a brief hiatus the previous year.
Fluctuating Web3 Gaming Interest Trends
Taking into account the changing interest in Web3 games, only four countries have achieved sustained year-over-year growth from 2021 to 2023: Pakistan, South Korea, Kenya and Sri Lanka. Conversely, declining interest from Singapore, China, Thailand and Venezuela has resulted in Thailand and Venezuela falling out of the top 15 in 2023 and 2021 respectively.
Interest declined in six countries from 2021 to 2022, reflecting the market’s shift from bullish to bearish. However, they have a promising recovery in 2023, with the Netherlands, Lebanon, Nepal and India surpassing 2021 levels, while Australia rebounds back to its original level.
However, not all countries have embarked on the recovery wave. A hotbed of Web3 gaming, the Philippines saw only a slight pick-up in interest in 2023, down from 2021’s stellar performance.
Additionally, nine countries that showed greater interest in Web3 games in 2022 did not maintain the same level of participation in 2023. Among them, Russia, Laos and Malaysia were notable for breaking into the top 15 in 2022, but lost their seats in 2023.
Write at the end
This global snapshot of Web3 gaming interest highlights how this revolutionary trend is manifesting differently around the world. But one thing is clear: Web3 gaming is here to stay, and it will shape the future of the gaming industry one nation at a time.
