Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA details, especially when it comes to banking info and phone numbers. Been seeing questions about this in community groups, so thought I'd share what I learned.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you basically have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. Can't do it online, which is annoying but that's how it works. You'll need to fill out a Payment Method Change Form and bring your original ID plus proof of your new bank account. They want a bank statement not older than three months or a letter from the bank confirming it's active in your name. Important thing: the account has to be in YOUR name only, no joint accounts or anything like that. Once they process it, the bank takes up to 21 days to verify, so don't expect it overnight. If you're trying to change it before the next payment cycle, you need to submit before the 15th of the month or it'll take another cycle to process.

Now, for SRD status and banking details change, it's actually way simpler because everything's done online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS to your registered number, and you update your bank details through that link. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks. This is one area where the online process is actually pretty smooth compared to permanent grants.

Phone number changes are similar depending on which grant you're on. For SRD, there's a dedicated contact details page where you input your ID and Application ID, then enter your new number. They'll send you an OTP to verify it. For permanent grants, you're back to calling the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visiting an office.

One thing people get caught on: there are fake websites out there trying to scam you into changing your details. Always use the official SASSA links and be careful with your personal info. If the online process gives you trouble, just call them directly or go to an office. Waiting sucks but it's safer than messing with sketchy sites.
