Just figured out how to change SASSA bank details after getting confused about the whole process. Turns out it's different depending on which grant you're on, which nobody really explains clearly.
If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. No way around it. You need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll give you a form to fill out. The catch is the account has to be solely in your name - no joint accounts or anything like that. Takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify, so if you're trying to change your details, do it before the 15th of the month or you'll miss that month's payment.
But if you're on the SRD grant, it's completely online through their portal. That's actually way easier - you just enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, and you update your bank details from there. Still takes a few days for verification though.
As for changing your cellphone number, same deal - in-person for permanent grants, but SRD has an online contact portal where you can update it. They'll send you an OTP to verify. One thing though: watch out for fake websites. Always use the official SASSA link.
If you're stuck, call their helpline on 0800 60 10 11 or just visit an office. It's a bit of a hassle but at least now I know how to change SASSA bank details properly without messing up my payments.
