Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA details, especially before December payments roll out. Whether you're on permanent grants or the SRD R370 thing, the process is actually different and people keep mixing it up.

If you're on old age, disability, or child grants, you can't do it online—you have to physically go to a SASSA office with your ID and bank statement (less than 3 months old). They'll give you a form, verify everything, and it takes up to 21 days to process. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month or you'll miss that month's payment cycle.

But here's the thing—SRD grant holders have it easier. You can actually change your banking details and phone number through the official srd sassa gov za portal online. Just enter your ID, they send you an SMS link, and you update everything there. Way faster than going to an office, but people don't know about it.

The one thing both have in common: the bank account has to be 100% in your name. No joint accounts, no third-party stuff. And if you're doing the cash send option, your phone number needs to be RICA-registered.

Also, heads up—there are fake websites pretending to be SASSA. Always use the official portal or call 0800 60 10 11 if you're not sure. Better safe than sorry with your grant info.
