ME News message: On April 13 (UTC+8), Hong Kong police stated on the “Guardian” platform that a woman in Hong Kong fell victim to a crypto “pig-butchering” scam, losing more than 2 million HKD. The scammer proactively followed a woman in her fifties on IG and struck up conversation via comments, using words that conveyed concern for her well-being to quickly establish a romantic relationship. The scammer then claimed to be a “crypto investment expert” and lured her into a trap. The scammer first induced the victim to transfer 40,000 HKD as a fee to open an investment website account, and then requested that she go to physical exchange stores seven times to exchange cash for USDT, transferring the USDT to the scammer via an electronic wallet. After the funds were received, the scammer immediately went missing. (Source: Foresight News)
