Techub News reports, citing Japan’s Kyodo News, that SoftBank, NEC, Honda, and Sony Group have established a new company to develop AI. The company is named “Japan AI Foundation Model Development.” It plans to assemble about 100 AI development personnel, with a SoftBank executive serving as president. In addition to these four companies, Japan Steel Works, Kobe Steel, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Mizuho Bank also participate in the funding. SoftBank and NEC will carry out the development, while Honda will apply the development results to autonomous driving. The AI developed will be broadly opened to Japanese companies beyond the participating investors, and in the future it will also extend into AI for controlling robots.
