ME News update: On April 5 (UTC+8), Middle East scholar Mohammad Ali Shabani said in an interview that he believes U.S. President Trump is ready to carry out his threat to strike Iran’s critical infrastructure, which poses a risk of a serious escalation in the region. Iran, for its part, sent a message to the U.S. by attacking Kuwait’s infrastructure, indicating that it “will not back down.” He added: “The current situation is, to some extent, similar to a standoff, and neither side has a path to withdraw in a dignified manner. In this situation, I believe there is a very high likelihood that the region will see a serious escalation within the next 24 hours.” (Source: ChainCatcher)
