Our city's waterway transportation has achieved a good start, with port throughput surpassing 30 million tons in the first quarter.

In the first quarter of this year, our city’s waterway transportation production maintained rapid growth. The latest statistics show that from January to March, the city completed a port throughput of 30.36 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 24%. Among them, foreign trade throughput reached 2.04 million tons, an increase of 5%; container throughput reached 18k TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 21%. Waterway freight volume and cargo turnover also achieved rapid growth of 19% and 45%, respectively, marking a good start for port and waterway transportation production.

Behind the data growth is the continuous upgrade of our city’s port infrastructure capacity in recent years. A relevant person in charge from the municipal transportation department introduced that this year, two new port enterprises have been put into operation in the city, and combined with the capacity release of enterprises put into operation in recent years, port operation capacity and cargo distribution efficiency have significantly improved. Meanwhile, the strong momentum of foreign trade demand has directly driven the rise of various port production indicators.

The enhancement of waterway freight capacity is also due to the solid progress in the introduction of shipping capacity. In the first quarter, the city’s total waterway capacity increased by 35% compared to the same period last year, further strengthening waterway cargo transportation assurance capabilities, laying a foundation for optimizing the city’s transportation structure and promoting green low-carbon development.

Next, the municipal transportation department will focus on maintaining smooth transportation and improving quality and efficiency, continue to leverage the advantages of newly added port terminals and transportation capacity, promote deep coordination and efficient development of waterway transportation and port construction, and provide stronger water transportation support for the high-quality development of the city’s economy and society.
