Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong said in an explanatory statement on the 7th after the Security Council vote on the draft resolution concerning the Strait of Hormuz that, against the backdrop of the United States openly threatening the survival of a “civilization” and the war that is forced on/in Iran being highly likely to escalate further, if the draft resolution is adopted, it would send a very wrong signal and lead to extremely serious consequences. Fu Cong said that, given the current situation, this draft resolution should clearly identify the root causes of this war, seek the right ways to address these root causes and ensure the safety of navigation, and work to urge reconciliation, facilitate talks, and achieve peace. Unfortunately, the draft resolution failed to comprehensively and fairly reflect the root causes and the full picture of the conflict; parts that unilaterally condemn and apply pressure, label it as a threat to international peace and security, and call for military escort are all too easily misconstrued and even abused.( Xinhua News Agency)
