Shanghai Securities News · China Securities Journal News (Reporter Deng Zhen) On April 7, Shanghai Securities News reporters learned from Tiantong Co., Ltd. that the “Zhejiang Province Optoelectronic Crystal Material Innovation Center” (hereinafter referred to as the “Innovation Center”) led by them has successfully been selected for the 2026 Zhejiang Province Manufacturing Innovation Center cultivation list. This list was jointly announced by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology and the Provincial Department of Finance, with a total of three innovation centers in Zhejiang Province making the list.
It is understood that the Innovation Center operates on a “company + alliance” model. Tiantong Co., Ltd., as the leading entity, has partnered with multiple enterprises and research institutions to jointly establish the center. It targets major national needs and key industry development bottlenecks, focusing on developing new quality productivity, and concentrates on the “root technology” of general semiconductor materials and key manufacturing processes. The center systematically plans for the research and development of key common technologies, pilot testing, and achievement transformation, aiming to connect the entire innovation chain of “key process R&D – pilot testing – transfer and transformation – initial commercial application.” It strives to create an influential source of innovation and an industrial synergy hub in China’s high-performance optoelectronic materials field, supporting Zhejiang in building a globally competitive optoelectronic industry innovation ecosystem, and aims to become China’s first manufacturing innovation center focused on “optical crystal materials.”
In terms of technological breakthroughs, the Innovation Center focuses on the “bottleneck” links in the optoelectronic crystal material industry, with key breakthroughs in three foundational technologies: large-size crystal growth, wafer heterogenous integration, and device inspection and testing. It centers around four core application scenarios—AI data center optical modules, AR optical waveguides, 5G/6G RF filters, and CoWoS advanced packaging—to develop industrialized technical solutions and standardized process packages, promoting the transition of optoelectronic crystal materials from “catching up” to “running alongside and leading.”
Looking ahead, the Innovation Center will organize and implement a series of projects to strengthen the supply chain, establish mechanisms for identifying major industry technological needs and for industry-university-research collaborative innovation, focusing on common industry needs such as large-size crystal growth, heterogenous integration, and testing verification. In terms of achievement transformation, the center will actively incubate enterprises, lead or participate in formulating international, national, industry, and group standards; in talent development, it will build a talent development pattern of “global talent attraction, systematic training, and ecological retention,” cultivate core R&D teams, and introduce external expert teams from Zhejiang University and other institutions, creating a multi-level talent system to support long-term industrial development.
