On March 31 local time, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution titled “Development, Implementation, and Review of Mandated Tasks for Building an Efficient and Effective United Nations.” The vote was 168 in favor, 4 against, and 0 abstentions. China voted in favor, while Russia, Belarus, North Korea, and Nicaragua voted against. According to the decision of General Assembly resolution 79/571, a special working group was established to hold meetings from September 2025 to March 2026, aimed at identifying relevant principles and follow-up actions to improve the formulation, implementation, and review of UN mandated tasks. UN Secretary-General Guterres welcomed the adoption of the resolution, calling it “a historic decision” and “an important step.” (CCTV News)
