Satellite data agency Earth-i: Two major copper smelting plants in Iran appear to have ceased production

Gelonghui April 7 | According to satellite data agency Earth-i, two major copper smelters in Iran appear to have ceased production; the agency tracks related activities based on thermal signals, exhaust gases, inventories, and vehicle movements. Iran’s largest copper smelter, Sar Chesmeh, has been shut down since March 28. This smelter processes ore from the largest copper mine in the Middle East, with an annual capacity of over 250k tons. Earth-i states that another state-owned smelter, Khatoon Abad, also shut down last weekend. The plant’s annual copper capacity is approximately 120k tons.
