China hosts thematic side event: Responding to human rights challenges with scientific solutions
On March 17th, during the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the China Civil Society International Exchange Promotion Association collaborated with the Chinese Permanent Mission to Geneva to hold a side event titled “Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development: Using Scientific Solutions to Address Human Rights Challenges.” Nearly a hundred Chinese and international participants gathered to discuss how civil society organizations can utilize digital technology to safeguard the right to development, and to explore their roles in addressing global challenges such as climate change, public health crises, the digital divide, and promoting solutions to discrimination and inequality. Chinese Permanent Mission to Geneva Counselor Li Xiaomei delivered an opening speech, stating that China attaches great importance to promoting and protecting the right to development, calling on all countries to renew their commitments, uphold a people-centered approach, uphold fairness and justice, adhere to true multilateralism, further leverage development’s contribution to all human rights, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind. The attending representatives appreciated China’s constructive role in promoting dialogue within the multilateral framework on development cooperation and technological innovation. (CCTV News)
