The war enters a "new phase" as Iran retaliates with "burning down" U.S.-related oil facilities.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement on the 19th that it had launched the 63rd-wave offensive of the “True Commitment-4” operation, “burning” U.S.-related oil facilities as retaliation. The statement said that the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel has entered a “new stage.” The statement added that, after intense strikes, Iran “burned” a series of U.S.-related oil facilities in the Middle East. It said that a multi-warhead missile hit and destroyed a military deployment center in southern Israel.
The statement said Iran had no intention of expanding the war to oil facilities, nor of harming the economies of friendly neighboring countries. “Because the enemy attacked Iran’s energy infrastructure, we have in fact entered a new phase of war.” To defend Iran’s infrastructure, Iran “had to attack energy facilities linked to the United States and U.S. holdings.”
The statement warned the United States and Israel that attacking Iran’s energy infrastructure is a “serious mistake.” If such incidents occur again, Iran will “continue to attack the energy infrastructure of you and your allies until it is completely destroyed,” and “the response will be even more severe.”
According to Israeli media, Israel’s air force carried out an attack that day on Iran’s “major natural gas facilities” in the city of Bushehr in southern Iran, and planned to launch attacks on other Iranian infrastructure. On the 18th, countries including Qatar said that oil and gas facilities were damaged in Iran’s attacks.
According to U.S. media reports, U.S. President Trump had been informed in advance of Israel’s attack and said he supported it, viewing it as a signal to the Iranian government regarding Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. However, Trump later said on social media that the United States was “not aware” of Israel’s attack on Iranian oil and gas facilities, and Qatar also did not participate in the attack in any form.
