Starting April 1st, Hunan will enter the flood season, with distinct regional and seasonal flood and drought characteristics.
Reporters learned today from the Hunan Provincial Emergency Committee Office that starting April 1st, Hunan has entered the flood season, and flood prevention has become the “main theme.” According to meteorological forecasts, this year’s flood season in Hunan will have overall precipitation similar to the long-term average, but with uneven spatial and temporal distribution, clear phase and regional drought and flood characteristics, and an overall climate deviation. It presents high disaster risk during the concentrated rainy period, as well as significant impacts from high temperatures and typhoons. Specifically: from mid-May to early July, heavy rainfall will be concentrated, and extreme local heavy rain may occur in central and southern Hunan, which could easily trigger floods in small and medium rivers, landslides, and urban waterlogging; in early July, the rainy season ends, and phase high-temperature weather will arrive, with most areas experiencing drought, and higher risks of severe drought in central and northern Hunan; from mid-July to August, it is expected that 2 to 3 typhoons will make landfall, and the regions of southern and eastern Hunan should be alert to strong wind and rain disasters.
