Picard Medical Inc. announced a significant milestone: a patient was supported for 1,636 days (over 53 months) by the SynCardia Total Artificial Heart before successfully receiving a donor transplant. This case highlights the device’s ability to sustain critically ill patients with severe biventricular heart failure for extended periods, allowing them to await suitable donor organs at home. The SynCardia Total Artificial Heart replaces both ventricles and all four native heart valves, restoring circulation and demonstrating its potential for long-term mechanical circulatory support.
